HMT Empire Windrush
HMT Empire Windrush was a passenger ship, built in Germany in 1930 as the Monte Rosa, that brought more than a thousand passengers, most of them from the Caribbean, to Tilbury in June 1948. Its arrival became a symbol of post-war Commonwealth migration to Britain, and the migrants of that era are known as the Windrush generation.
