House of Gurieli

Also known as Gurieli

The Gurieli were the ruling house of Guria, in south-western Georgia, a branch of the Vardanisdze family who governed it as eristavis of the Georgian kingdom from the 14th century and as independent princes after its break-up in the 15th. Often at war with Imereti, Mingrelia and the Ottomans, they came under Russian protection in 1810, and Guria was annexed by Russia in 1829.
