Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley is the valley of the Hudson River in New York, running north from New York City towards Albany. The Dutch settled it as the core of New Netherland, granting large patroonships such as Rensselaerswyck. Under English rule great manor estates dominated it, and Dutch language, place names and customs persisted there long after 1664.
