Person
Husayn ibn Ali
Husayn ibn Ali was a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the son of Ali, the fourth caliph. He refused to recognise the Umayyad caliph Yazid I and was killed with his companions at Karbala in 680 CE. His death became a defining event for Shia Islam and a lasting challenge to the legitimacy of the Umayyad Caliphate.
