Prophet Muhammad
The Prophet Muhammad was the founder of Islam, who lived in Mecca and Medina in the late sixth and early seventh centuries and died in 632 CE. His death without a designated successor led to the establishment of the Rashidun Caliphate, from which the Umayyad Caliphate later emerged. Later Muslim states, from the Fatimid Caliphate to the Sokoto Caliphate, drew legitimacy from descent from him or emulation of his example.
