Huvadhu Atoll

Huvadhu Atoll is one of the largest atolls in the world, in the south of the Maldives, divided for administration into Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu. In 1959 its islands joined Addu and Fuvahmulah in the United Suvadive Republic against the government in Malé, which sent forces under Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir to crush the revolt there in 1962, destroying the island of Thinadhoo.
