Ibn Salim al-Aswani

fl. 969 · 10th century

Ibn Salim al-Aswani was an Egyptian official and writer of the 10th century, sent by the Fatimid commander Jawhar as envoy to the king of Makuria around 969. His account of Nubia survives only in quotations by later authors such as al-Maqrizi, and describes a prosperous and populous Christian kingdom along the Nile. It is a principal source for medieval Nubia.
