Ichadon

501–527 · 6th century

Ichadon was a court official of Silla whose martyrdom in 527 led to the kingdom's acceptance of Buddhism. According to tradition he offered to be executed to overcome the opposition of the nobles to the new faith, and when he was beheaded milk-white blood flowed from his neck. King Beopheung then made Buddhism the official religion of Silla.
