Indépendance Cha Cha
In 1959 the Belgian government called a Belgo-Congolese Round Table Conference in Brussels to discuss the political future of the Belgian Congo. Thomas and Philippe Kanza, sons of the Congolese delegate Daniel Kanza, proposed bringing Congolese musicians to entertain the delegates, and late in 1959 Thomas invited Joseph Kabasele, known on stage as Le Grand Kallé and leader of African Jazz, and Victor Longomba, leader of the rival band OK Jazz.
