Issa (Dalmatia)
Issa was an ancient Greek city on the island of Vis in the central Adriatic, now in Croatia. Founded with the backing of Dionysius I of Syracuse in the early 4th century BCE, it planted its own settlements on the mainland, such as Tragurion (Trogir) and Epetion. Its appeal to Rome against the Illyrian queen Teuta helped bring about the First Illyrian War of 229 BCE.
