Person
Teuta
Teuta was queen of the Ardiaean kingdom of Illyria, ruling as regent for her stepson Pinnes after the death of her husband Agron in 231 BCE. Illyrian raids on Greek cities and Italian traders under her rule, and the killing of a Roman envoy, provoked the First Illyrian War in 229 BCE. Defeated, she accepted Roman terms in 228 BCE that limited Illyrian shipping south of Lissus.
