Illyria
Illyria was the name given by ancient Greek and Roman writers to the western Balkans along the eastern Adriatic, home of the Illyrian peoples. Its kingdoms, notably that of Bardylis and that of the Ardiaean dynasty under Agron, Teuta and Gentius, fought Macedon and Rome until the Roman conquest of 168 BCE. The region became the Roman province of Illyricum, and the name was revived for Napoleon's Illyrian Provinces.
