Illtud

fl. c. 500 · 6th century · Also known as Saint Illtud

Illtud was a British abbot of around 500, founder of the monastic school of Llanilltud Fawr, now Llantwit Major, in Glamorgan. Early saints' lives make him the teacher of Samson of Dol, Gildas and other Welsh saints, and his school became a leading centre of learning in early Christian Britain.
