Illyricum (Roman province)
Illyricum was the Roman province on the eastern shore of the Adriatic, formed in stages during the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE as Rome subdued the Illyrian peoples of the coast and hinterland. Julius Caesar governed it with Gaul. After the Great Illyrian Revolt of 6–9 CE it was divided into Dalmatia in the south and Pannonia in the north, though the name Illyricum lived on for a wider administrative region.
