Illyrians
The Illyrians were ancient peoples of the western Balkans, living along the eastern Adriatic coast and its hinterland. Divided into many tribes, they formed kingdoms such as that of the Ardiaei under Agron and Queen Teuta, which fought Rome in the 3rd century BCE. Rome conquered the last Illyrian kingdom in 168 BCE, and the region became the province of Illyricum.
