Lake Ohrid
Lake Ohrid is one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe, on the border between North Macedonia and Albania. Greek writers placed the Illyrian Enchelei, the eel people, near its shores. Later the town of Ohrid on its north-eastern shore became a centre of Slavic Christian learning under Saint Clement and the seat of an archbishopric, and the region is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
