c. 10th century BCE · 10th century BCE

Ittobaal was a king of Byblos, the son of King Ahiram. He is known from the inscription he had carved on his father's stone sarcophagus, found in 1923, which warns against disturbing the tomb. Usually dated to around 1000 BCE, it is one of the oldest substantial texts in the Phoenician alphabet.
