Byblos
Byblos is an ancient port city on the coast of Lebanon, north of Beirut, known in Arabic as Jbeil or Jubail. Inhabited for some 7,000 years, it was a leading Phoenician city that traded timber and papyrus with Egypt, and the Greek word for book derives from its name. Under the Crusaders it was the lordship of Gibelet, held by the Genoese Embriaco family within the County of Tripoli.
