Beirut
Beirut is a port city on the eastern Mediterranean coast, now the capital of Lebanon. In the medieval period it was one of the coastal ports, along with Acre and Tyre, that connected overland routes from the Persian Gulf and Central Asia to Mediterranean trade. Its commercial importance shaped the Ayyubid Empire's relations with the Crusader coastal enclaves.
