Itzamnaaj K'awiil

673–726 · 8th century · Also known as Ruler 2 of Dos Pilas

Itzamnaaj K'awiil was the second known ruler of the Maya city of Dos Pilas in Guatemala, reigning from 698 to 726. Son of the dynasty's founder B'ajlaj Chan K'awiil, he continued his father's alliance with Calakmul and expanded Dos Pilas power across the Petexbatún region. His long reign was a high point of the kingdom before the wars that later destroyed it.
