Jagersfontein

Jagersfontein is a town in the south of the Free State province of South Africa, which grew around a diamond mine opened in the early 1870s. Its huge open pit, largely dug by hand, yielded the Excelsior diamond in 1893 and the Jubilee diamond in 1895. The mine stayed within the Orange Free State after Britain annexed the richer fields of Griqualand West.
