Jaunpur
Jaunpur is a city on the Gomti river in eastern Uttar Pradesh, India, founded in the 14th century by the Delhi sultan Firuz Shah Tughluq. From 1394 to 1479 it was the capital of the Sharqi sultans, whose patronage of scholars earned it the name Shiraz of India. Its mosques and the 16th-century Mughal bridge over the Gomti survive.
