Jean du Plessis d'Ossonville
Jean du Plessis d'Ossonville was a French nobleman who, with Charles Liénard de l'Olive, led the colonists sent by the Compagnie des Îles de l'Amérique to settle Guadeloupe in June 1635. The expedition landed in the north of Basse-Terre island, where the settlers suffered from hunger and fever. Du Plessis died later in 1635, leaving l'Olive in charge of the colony.
