Jebel Ali Free Zone

1985 · 20th century

The Jebel Ali Free Zone is a free trade zone in Dubai, established in 1985 beside the deep-water port of Jebel Ali, which opened in 1979. Offering foreign companies full ownership, exemption from taxes and customs duties and simple procedures, it became one of the largest free zones in the world, home to thousands of companies, and a model for the many free zones that followed across the Gulf.
