Person
Jin Midi
Jin Midi was a Xiongnu prince of Xiutu who became a general and co-regent of the Western Han dynasty. Heir of the Prince of Xiutu, he was taken into imperial service in the stables after his father was killed in 121 BCE by the Prince of Hunye, who surrendered to the Han. Emperor Wu, impressed by his propriety, made him director of the imperial stables and gave him the surname Jin, gold, after the golden statues his father had used to worship heaven. In 88 BCE he wrestled down Ma Heluo, who was entering the emperor's bedchamber with a knife. Named a secondary regent for the young Emperor Zhao in 87 BCE, beside Huo Guang and Shangguan Jie, he died the following year.
