Jin Shuren

1879–1941 · 20th century

Jin Shuren was a Chinese official who governed Xinjiang from 1928, after the assassination of Yang Zengxin, until 1933. His abolition of the Kumul Khanate in 1930, heavy taxes and settlement of Han Chinese provoked the Kumul Rebellion, which spread across the province and drew in the Hui warlord Ma Zhongying. He was overthrown in a coup in April 1933 and fled to China proper.
