Jonnart Law
The Jonnart Law of February 1919, named after the governor-general Charles Jonnart, widened the rights of Muslim Algerians after their service in the First World War. It eased access to French citizenship and enlarged the Muslim electorate for local assemblies, while keeping Muslims in a separate and unequal electoral college. Its limited reach disappointed reformers and settlers alike.
