Joscelin II of Edessa

d. 1159 · 12th century

Joscelin II was the last count of Edessa, succeeding his father Joscelin I in 1131. While he was absent, Imad al-Din Zengi took the city of Edessa on 24 December 1144, which prompted the Second Crusade. Joscelin failed to retake it in 1146, was captured by Nur al-Din's forces in 1150 and died in prison in Aleppo.
