Kaaba
The Kaaba is a cube-shaped building at the centre of the Great Mosque of Mecca, the holiest site in Islam. Before Islam it was a shrine housing many idols, visited by pilgrims from across western Arabia. After taking Mecca in 630 Muhammad cleared away the idols, and Muslims worldwide face the Kaaba in prayer and circle it during the hajj.
