Kachin State

Kachin State is the northernmost state of Myanmar, bordering China and India, with its capital at Myitkyina. Its mountains and the upper Irrawaddy valley are home to the Kachin peoples and to Shan and Burman communities, and it includes the jade mines of Hpakant. It was formed in 1948 and has been a centre of armed conflict between the Kachin Independence Army and the Burmese military since the 1960s.
