Tai Mao
The Tai Mao are a Tai-speaking people of the Shweli river valley on today's China–Myanmar border, part of the wider Shan peoples. Their kingdom of Mong Mao was a regional power in the 14th century until Ming armies broke it in the 1440s, and several northern Shan states, such as Mogaung, traced their ruling houses to the Tai Mao world.
