Tai Lü people
The Tai Lü are a Tai-speaking people of the upper Mekong, living chiefly in Sipsong Panna (Xishuangbanna) in southern Yunnan and in neighbouring parts of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Theravada Buddhist rice farmers, they formed the kingdom centred on Chiang Hung, which paid tribute to both China and Burma. Wars and forced resettlement, notably under the Lan Na rulers around 1800, carried many Tai Lü into northern Thailand.
