Northern Thai language

Also known as Kham Mueang, Lanna language

Northern Thai, known to its speakers as Kham Mueang, is the Tai language of the former kingdom of Lan Na, spoken by several million people in northern Thailand. It was traditionally written in the Tai Tham script used for Buddhist texts, and it remains a strong marker of northern identity, though most speakers now also use standard Thai.
