Yunnan
Yunnan is a province of south-western China bordering Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam, with Kunming as its capital. Its plateau was the base of the Nanzhao and Dali kingdoms until the Mongol conquest of 1253, after which it was ruled as a province of China. Home to more ethnic groups than any other Chinese province, it was the scene of the Panthay rebellion of 1856–1873.
