Keren
Keren is a city in the highlands of western Eritrea and one of the country's largest towns. In 1941 it was the scene of the Battle of Keren, in which British and Indian forces broke through the strong Italian defences after weeks of fighting, opening the way to Asmara and ending Italian rule in Eritrea.
