Kerei Khan

15th century · 15th century · Also known as Kerey Khan

Kerei Khan was a descendant of Urus Khan of the White Horde and, with Janibek Khan, the founder of the Kazakh Khanate. In the mid-15th century the two led discontented clans away from Abu'l-Khayr Khan's Uzbek confederation to the Chu valley, under the protection of the khans of Moghulistan. Kerei is traditionally counted the first khan of the Kazakhs.
