Uzbeks
The Uzbeks are a Turkic people of Central Asia whose name derives from the nomadic confederation that formed in the fifteenth century. Under Muhammad Shaybani they conquered Transoxiana from the Timurids around 1500, ending Timurid rule there and driving Babur south. They became persistent rivals of the Safavid Empire, raiding Khorasan until Shah Abbas I reconquered it in 1598.
