King of Battle

Also known as Šar tamḫāri

The King of Battle (Akkadian šar tamḫāri) is a Mesopotamian legend in which Sargon of Akkad marches to Purushanda in Anatolia to protect Akkadian merchants from its king, Nur-Daggal. Known from a copy found at Amarna in Egypt, dating to the 14th century BCE, and from Assyrian fragments, it reflects Sargon's later fame and the memory of trade with Anatolia rather than any attested campaign.
