Kinkaku-ji
Kinkaku-ji, the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto, Japan. It began as the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, who built the gold-leafed pavilion from 1397; after his death in 1408 it became a temple. The original pavilion was burned down by a monk in 1950 and rebuilt in 1955.
