Kirata
Kirata is the name given in ancient Indian literature, including the Vedas, the Mahabharata and the Puranas, to peoples of the Himalaya and the hills of the north-east, often described as hunters or forest dwellers. Greek geographers also mention them. In Nepal the name is linked to the Kiranti peoples, such as the Rai and Limbu, and to a dynasty that the chronicles place in the Kathmandu Valley before the Licchavis.
