Knighthood
Knighthood refers to the tradition of an elite class of mounted, heavily armed warriors bound by status and service to a ruler. Its armoured cavalry influenced Byzantine heavy cavalry and, through several channels of transmission, the medieval European knightly tradition. Elite horsemen of this kind were the backbone of Sasanian military power.
