Lordship of Stargard
The Lordship of Stargard was a territory in south-eastern Mecklenburg around Neubrandenburg, Strelitz and Friedland, named after the castle of Stargard. Part of Brandenburg in the 13th century, it passed to Mecklenburg around 1300 through the marriage of Henry II of Mecklenburg to Beatrix of Brandenburg. It was ruled by a separate line, the dukes of Mecklenburg-Stargard, from 1352 to 1471, and later formed the core of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
