Krefeld-Gellep

Also known as Gelduba

Krefeld-Gellep is a district of Krefeld on the lower Rhine and the site of the Roman fort of Gelduba. Its cemetery, with several thousand burials from the Roman period to the Frankish era, is one of the largest excavated in northern Europe. The graves, including a rich Frankish princely burial of the 6th century, show Roman and Frankish customs mixing.
