Kumano
Kumano is a mountainous, forested region in the south of the Kii Peninsula of Japan, in Wakayama, Mie and Nara prefectures. It is famous for the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano, at Hongū, Shingū and Nachi, which drew emperors and commoners along the pilgrimage routes of the Kumano Kodō from the Heian period onwards. The routes form part of a World Heritage Site.
