La Mosquitia
La Mosquitia is a sparsely populated region of rainforest, pine savanna and lagoons in eastern Honduras, the Honduran part of the Mosquito Coast that extends into Nicaragua. It is the homeland of the Miskito and other indigenous peoples, and from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century it was under British influence through the Miskito kingdom. Its Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve is a World Heritage Site.
