Miskito
The Miskito are an indigenous people of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua and Honduras, whose ancestry mixes Amerindian, African and European origins. From the 17th century they allied with English traders and buccaneers, obtaining firearms that let them dominate neighbouring peoples, and their kings ruled the Mosquito Coast under British protection. Their land was incorporated into Nicaragua in 1894, and they remain the largest indigenous group of the region.
