La Reforma
La Reforma was a period of liberal reform in Mexico that began after the Revolution of Ayutla overthrew Antonio López de Santa Anna in 1855. Laws such as the Ley Juárez and the Ley Lerdo curtailed the legal privileges of the Church and the army and forced the sale of corporate lands, and the Constitution of 1857 enshrined these principles. Conservative resistance led to the Reform War of 1858–1861 and helped prepare the way for French intervention.
