La Plata

1882 · 19th century

La Plata is a city in Argentina, capital of the province of Buenos Aires, founded in 1882 by Governor Dardo Rocha after the city of Buenos Aires was federalised as the national capital. It was laid out on a planned grid crossed by diagonal avenues, and its university and natural history museum made it a centre of learning.
