Lake Muhazi

Lake Muhazi is a long, narrow lake in eastern Rwanda, north-east of Kigali, with many winding arms between steep hills. Rwandan court traditions place the early core of the Nyiginya kingdom near its shores, from which the Kingdom of Rwanda expanded from the 16th or 17th century. Its banks are today farmed and fished by surrounding communities.
