Kagera River

Also known as Akagera River, Akagera

The Kagera River is the largest river flowing into Lake Victoria, and its headwaters are often counted as the most distant source of the Nile. Rising in the highlands of Rwanda and Burundi, it forms parts of the borders of Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda before entering the lake north of Bukoba. Its valley was home to several historic kingdoms, including Gisaka, Karagwe and the Haya states.
